DIRECTIONS for personalizing a plush mascot:

Here is an easy way to make a stuffed animal such as this unicorn into a very special representative of your sorority, in this case, Delta Phi Epsilon . Make a sorority necklace with a ribbon chain and a charm from a foam star.
Simply.....

1. On the foam star, paint Greek letters
2. Next, punch a hole with a hole puncher
3. Thread the narrow ribbon through the hole you just punched
4. Tie ribbon around your mascot to make a necklace
5. Add a pretty bow

Iron On Greek Letters for Your Sorority Items

Make a sorority letter tote with these easy to apply iron-on Greek letters . You can find generic tote bags at Hobby Lobby or Michaels. Just iron on your sorority letters to make a unique gift for a sister or for yourself.

These letters come in different styles as shown above, but you also can choose the fabric that you want them to be made from. The letters are made to order...your choice of style and your choice of fabric.

Choose from these fabric swatches for your custom made Greek letters:

If you have an iron, you can make a sorority tote bag that represents your sorority with these iron on letters.

If you would prefer to have a custom made totebag, you can order one! Pat has made hundreds of sorority totes by custom order. Her feedback is 100 percent positive so no need to worry about the outcome.

Now you can design your own sorority tote! Your design will be unique and customized to your specifications. Appliqued fabric symbols/letters, embroidered symbols/letters, embroidered sorority names in script or block lettering (all colors available). Tote bag fabrics are available in a variety of colors.

Your tote will be handmade not purchased, fully lined 12" by 14" denim or medium weight twill. Your Greek symbols will be machine sewn in your fabric selection and the style letters you want, 5 inch "bubble" or 4 inch "traditional" letters, and lined with the matching or color coordinated lining.

Besides the fabric choices that are shown above, Pat also has gingham checks, polka dots and solids in a wide range of colors. Your name, your big or little sis's name, or chapter name. (maximum eleven letters) can be embroidered on your tote to make it even more personalized. Shown are several totes that have been custom ordered.

Sorority Christmas Ornaments - Phi Mu, Alpha Delta Pi Lion

Make this simple lion Christmas ornament for your sorority sisters!

Materials needed:

Pre-painted wooden lion (or other sorority mascot)
A small wooden shape from a pack of Woodsies
Your sorority colors in acrylic paint
10 inches of matching ribbon
Elmers glue

Michaels and Hobby Lobby carry many wooden cutouts for about fifty cents each (less when they are on sale). Some of the cutouts that are available are gators, frogs, lions (above), crowns, bears, ladybugs, butterflies, etc. Likewise, Woodsies which are small wooden shapes are sold at craft stores.

Quick & easy directions for sorority ornament:

1. Paint a woodsie shape with your main sorority color (as blue & pink above)

2. When paint dries, carefully paint your Greek Letters on the woodsie shape (as white above)

3. When paint dries, glue shape wherever you like on your lion

4. When glue dries, turn ornament over and attach ends of ribbon to ornament with glue. I put a heavy glob of glue about 1/8" diameter. Adhere the ribbon ends in the blob of glue and let the glue globs dry for a 1/2 hour or so. (The glue dries clear)

Christmas is months away, but in order to enjoy the holidays, plan and make your Christmas gifts early this year. Making gifts for your sorority sisters is fun and easy.

Update on 4-20-09
I am so sorry. I just checked and it doesn’t appear that this seller on eBay is offering the Greek Scrapbook Sets at this time. Hopefully, it is just temporary. These are such great sets!
Julie

These die cut papers are a timesaver, but there is no reason not to make your own if you have the time. Just pick out some scrapbooking papers in the colors and patterns of your choice. Use a pencil and a ruler to lightly sketch off your letters. Then cut them out and adhere to your scrapbook page.

Sorority Craft: Gift Baskets for Little or Big

Make your little sister a sorority gift basket and fill it with anything you like to make it more special.

You can use any basket for this idea, but chipped wood baskets work particularly well.
The colorful liner for the basket is made from a scrap of fabric. The tag is made from acid free scrapbooking cardstock.
Be creative with your tag. It can be as simple as your Greek letters applied with a marker, or you can use the idea above.... using your mascot as your design.

Tag Design Ideas:
1. Rubber stamp of mascot or sorority flower colored with pastel pencils
2. Sticker of your mascot, symbol, or flower
3. Cut out your mascot, symbol, or flower from a greeting card that you have saved
4. Draw and paint your own design

It doesn't take long to make your tag, and if you mess up, just start over

Handmade Sorority Gifts-Made 25 Years Ago

Ideas for Sorority Awards and Gifts
The following photos feature historic sorority gifts made 25 years ago for Chi Omega, Delta Zeta, Alpha Delta Pi, Phi Mu, Zeta Tau Alpha and Kappa Delta...hand-painted plaques, brown jugs, & paddle.

These sorority gift items were made in 1983. I only have pictures of the items since all of these sorority items were either special orders or were sold at the Chatter Tree craft & gift shop in Statesboro, Georgia to sorority girls from Georgia Southern College (which is now Georgia Southern University). Perhaps this blog will connect to some of the girls that actually bought or received these items as gifts. That would be so cool!

As far as I know, these were created before Greek Licensing came into being. That was back in the day when artistic ideas flourished for unique, one-of-a-kind sorority gift creations.

Perhaps, just viewing the pictures of these sorority items will inspire some of you to make something similar.

Make a Handpainted Delta Zeta Picture Frame with Turtle

This Delta Zeta Picture frame was made as a sample for this blog.

You Can Make One!!

Here is a hand-crafted gift that is easy to make for a sorority gift.

Recycle a picture frame and make it into a very special Big Sister/Little Sister sorority gift.

Here are some TIPS to get you started:

This picture frame was already painted olive green.

If the frame you have available is not the color that you want, or if it is scratched, etc. in need of paint.....simply paint it with acrylic paint which is available for less than one dollar. The black foam "brushes" work great for a project like this one and they, too, are very inexpensive.

I used some acid free white cardstock paper to sketch a little turtle. I colored him with colored pencils and then cut him out. I glued him to the mat that was already a part of my frame.

Try to use what you have, but you can buy different colored mats in standard sizes at craft stores.

The rest of the design is painted with acrylic paints onto the frame and then sprayed with crystal clear varnish (varnish is optional, but helps to preserve your work)

If you are not confident using paintbrushes, you can use paint pens for a very good effect. Practice the way you are going to write, first on paper before you actually paint or write on your frame. This helps prevent an undesired outcome.

Embellish your written design with some little hand painted flowers. Use the end of the paint brush to dip in the paint to make the dots of the flower. Then add stems and leaves with green paint. These, too, can be painted with paint pens if you don't like to use paintbrushes.

Make a Sorority Hat- Handmade Sorority Gift Idea

One-of-a-kind Kappa Delta Hat.

You Can Make This Hat!

Can you paint within lines?
Can you cut fabric?
Can you do simple sewing with a machine or a needle and thread?

If you can do these things, you can make a sorority hat like the one shown above.

Directions for Handmade Sorority Hat (Kappa Delta Sample Hat):

(Actually, you must buy a straw hat-mine came from Target-You just make the "medallion" patch)

From paper make a basic shape pattern for your "medallion". The sample hat has an oval shape.

Use your pattern, to cut out 2 from light colored fabric. You can use pinking shears for a zig zag edge as shown in the sample or just use regular scissors.

Draw your Greek Letters on paper. Make the outline dark with a marker.

Place your light colored fabric over the letters so that you can see the letters through the fabric and draw letters on the fabric with a pencil.

Use acrylic paint to paint your letters.

Sew back & front of oval "medallion" together with 1/4" seam allowance. (you can use a machine or just a needle and thread)

On the back side of your fabric oval, use sharp scissors to cut an small opening (only on the back) Stuff a little cotton or fiberfil stuffing through the slit to make your fabric "medallion" puffy (3D).

Use a glue gun to attach the sorority fabric oval to your hat.

That's all there is to it!

This Kappa Delta set was made as a sample for this blog. It is a one-of-a-kind Kappa Delta assortment.
