Sorority Mascot Cutouts-Delta Gamma Anchor

Delta Gamma Anchor

I have found the cutouts pictured here in an eBay shop called the Texas Art Craft Store. They have a wide selection of wooden cutouts. Type your mascot in the store search box to locate the cut outs you need.

There are also wooden cutouts available at craft stores like Hobby Lobby and Michaels, however, the selection is limited. The craft stores usually offers turtles, frogs, ladybugs, lions, butterflies, and some of the other mascots. The neat thing about these cutouts is they are prepainted and they are really cute. If you haven't seen them yet, see if you can find them the next time you are in a large craft store like the ones mentioned above.

Use acrylic paints and a quality art paint brush to color the wooden cutouts. Then you can use them for any number of gift ideas!....

Phi Mu Lion or Alpha Delta Pi Lion

Paint a bunch of your wooden mascots to make gift tags that will be treasured and saved. They also make very special Christmas ornaments to represent your sorority. It is easy to glue both ends of a loop of ribbon to the cutout to make a pretty way to hand it up.

Alpha Epsilon Phi Giraffes

Glue your handpainted mascot cutout on the front of a scrapbook to make a custom designed scrapbook. You can also decorate a journal or any notebook to make it represent your sorority.

Handmade Sorority Pillow with Ribbon Letters

a
Most letters are easy to form with ribbon. Make a unique handmade gift for your little sister or your big sister. You will need:

2 yards of ribbon in your sorority color
Stitch witchery- an iron-on bonding material (available from fabric departments & stores)
2 fabric squares (10" X 10" is a good size)
Fiberfil Stuffing

Free Shipping @ Joann.com! ($35 order minimum) Use promo code JANFSA835

  • 1. Form your letters with the ribbon. Fold or cut the ribbon to get the right shapes and turns. Just work at it until you like it.
  • 2. Cut out stitch witchery to fit behind the ribbon letters.
  • 3. Position the letters (with the stitch witchery underneath) in the center of one of your fabric squares.
  • 4. Set the iron on wool (medium heat). Place a piece of paper on top of your design. Iron the letters (through the paper) about 30 seconds. Let the the fabric cool before peeling the paper off. Check the letters to make sure they are securely bonded to the pillow fabric. You may need to repeat the ironing process. If the stitch witchery doesn't cover every spot, that's OK. Just so most of it is bonded.
  • 5. To construct your pillow, pin right sides together. Sew around the square leaving an opening for turning the pillow right side out.
  • 6. After turning right side out, stuff the pillow with fiberfil. Close pillow opening with a whip stitch.

There!! A Unique Handmade gift for your Chi Omega little sister or your big sister.

Making gifts is so much more fun than buying!

Chi Omega Owl:Easy to Paint on a Box!

Here is a hand-painted owl design on a tan paper-mache oval box. The Chi Omega letters can be added or a personalized message. There is plenty of space for a personal note to be painted.

The idea is easy to duplicate. Craft stores carry paper boxes as well as wooden ones. You can paint the box what ever color you desire. Trace a design you like onto paper(in this case I drew an owl design). Transfer the design to the box by placing a sheet of graphite paper (from crafts store) under design and drawing the lines of the design with a pen with enough firmness for the design to be marked on the box. Now you are ready to paint. I use acrylic paints for almost all of my artwork because they are so easy to work with and to clean up!

Handpainted Chi Omega Owl Purse

Here is an idea for a sorority handcrafted gift: a simple purse embellished with your sorority mascot painted with acrylics. This example is a small denim GAP purse with a Chi Omega owl happily sitting on a branch.

HINTS FOR PAINTING ON FABRIC:

Use acrylic paints to paint on fabric. They feel stiff when they dry, but if the fabric is not in direct contact with skin, then the stiffness doesn't matter much.

If you ever paint a tee shirt, be sure to wash it first to remove the sizing that new clothing contains. This assures that the paint will adhere to the fabric better. The paint dries to the touch very quickly, but wait a few hours so that it is thoroughly dry. Then set your iron on the wool setting and preheat it. Place a piece of paper on top of your painted design and iron the design for about 10-20 seconds. The paper will pick any paint residue rather than dirtying your iron. The heat will set the paint so that it will not wash out.

Painted clothing should be turned inside out when you wash it. Machine washing on gentle is usually fine for painted designs. A gentle wash and a delicate tumble dry (low heat) will give you painted design a long life.

Do you think you could do it? What else would you like to have directions for? Leave a me a message
