Delta Zeta Sorority Crafts-Wooden Turtle Cutouts

Make a Delta Zeta Turtle magnet for your FRIG.

Wooden cutouts for crafting are usually available at craft stores or online.

Paint a batch of turtles and use them to make Christmas ornaments, gift tags (that will be saved). Glue one in the center of a scrapbook front cover to make a custom designed scrapbook. IN the same way, you can decorate a journal or any notebook to make it represent your sorority.

These are so inexpensive and fun to decorate that you will enjoy thinking of friends to give them to.

Delta Zeta Sorority-Make Handpainted Turtle Magnets

Need some surprises to give your little sister this semester? Consider making your own sorority gifts like these sorority mascot magnets shown above. These are easy and require very few materials. You can turn out a bunch in a short amount of time.

Directions are posted at our new Sorority Magnets page.

These sorority magnets are so much fun to make. The samples are made for Delta Zeta, but you can adapt for any mascot and Greek letters.

Look at craft stores like Michaels, Hobby Lobby, or Jo Anns, and usually what you need is at Walmart where you can find whatever need for this project. (40% Off the Regular Price of One Item at Joann.com (Code: DECA840)

Make a Handpainted Delta Zeta Picture Frame with Turtle

This Delta Zeta Picture frame was made as a sample for this blog.

You Can Make One!!

Here is a hand-crafted gift that is easy to make for a sorority gift.

Recycle a picture frame and make it into a very special Big Sister/Little Sister sorority gift.

Here are some TIPS to get you started:

This picture frame was already painted olive green.

If the frame you have available is not the color that you want, or if it is scratched, etc. in need of paint.....simply paint it with acrylic paint which is available for less than one dollar. The black foam "brushes" work great for a project like this one and they, too, are very inexpensive.

I used some acid free white cardstock paper to sketch a little turtle. I colored him with colored pencils and then cut him out. I glued him to the mat that was already a part of my frame.

Try to use what you have, but you can buy different colored mats in standard sizes at craft stores.

The rest of the design is painted with acrylic paints onto the frame and then sprayed with crystal clear varnish (varnish is optional, but helps to preserve your work)

If you are not confident using paintbrushes, you can use paint pens for a very good effect. Practice the way you are going to write, first on paper before you actually paint or write on your frame. This helps prevent an undesired outcome.

Embellish your written design with some little hand painted flowers. Use the end of the paint brush to dip in the paint to make the dots of the flower. Then add stems and leaves with green paint. These, too, can be painted with paint pens if you don't like to use paintbrushes.

Phi Mu Lion with Special Necklace

Here is an easy way to make a stuffed animal such as this lion into a very special representative of your sorority, in this case, Phi Mu. Make a necklace with a ribbon chain and a charm from a foam star.
Simply
1. paint your Greek letters on the foam star
2. punch a hole with a regular hole puncher
3. thread the ribbon through the hole
4. Tie necklace round the neck
5. Add a pretty pink ribbon bow
Now look what you have made! So easy....

And by the way, other foam shapes will work well, too. A heart would be beautiful.
Check out these:
Teddy Bears for Kappa Delta
Turtles for Delta Zeta
Pandas for AOII
Lions for ADII, too.
Owls for Chi O (though stuffed owls are hard to come by) I plan to create a pattern for making a stuffed animal OWL very soon.

Also,
Dolphins
Frogs
Poodles
Unicorns
Ladybugs
Hannah Dolls
Penguins

Please send me a picture if you use this idea. I would love to see your results. (email link in sidebar)
Thanks,

Julie

Delta Zeta Design- Handmade Gift Idea

A new Delta Zeta design. I incorporated the turtle into the Greek "D".

Decorating plastic items is easy with paint pens. The pens are made to adhere to surfaces that regular paint would scratch off of. With a little practice, you can decorate almost any item and make it into a personalized gift. You have to try it.

Handcrafted gifts are more special anyway because you are giving of yourself. Also, it's fun and saves you a lot of money. Factory made sorority gifts can be very expensive.
